For Mummy Papa…

Each one of us is born with a desire to do something… something unique in our own way… to make a change… it may be big or small… but it’s huge for each one of us, since we think we were born to do this!

But we all know that there’s always one winner in a race, at least this is what we have been told! But what about the other players? What if they broke their own records and instead of celebrating they were just ignored? Similar to a race, this happens in our life too! We miss celebrating the efforts of most important people in our life who are doing their best each day, but we do not notice them because for us there are other champions who we think are the best role models for us! Sadly, these ignored group of people are known as parents! We all or most of us in our life have once ignored our parents and this poetry is for them…and for us…to remember their roles in our life…the importance of their life…their heroic acts and their sacrifices!

You had a dream to buy a house
You had a dream to build a business
You had a dream to travel to a foreign land
You had a dream which sadly came to an end
Because I was born!

You had a dream to buy a sport bike and be a racer
You had a dream to have wardrobe full of suits and blazers
You had a dream to follow your passion
But then I came, to put you in depression!

For few of you, I was a planned nightmare
And for few, a happy surprise in disguise
Few fought, few celebrated
And few of you, also left me deserted.

But most of you never complained about having me
For you, I became the reason for your smile
With me, your choices changed and so changed your priority
Making me happy became your duty.

This is not only for the ones who gave me birth
But also for the ones who were there after I was born
For the ones who I may not call papa mummy
But these are the ones who filled my empty tummy.

Also for the ones who played the role of two
Lucky are us who got a parent like you
Also for the ones who fought to keep me alive
I am sorry I ignored you most of the times!

If I am the reason for your happiness
I am the reason of your tension too
Your own clothes, bags and shoes can be old
But for me you wanted everything to be new.

From Hospital, school, to marriage and travel
The list of the things that you have done for me never ends
With me, something more has grown with time
And that is the amount of your bills
I can never think of doing so much for another person
Even the thought of this gives me chills!

I love you! I know I have never said this to you
And you have never said to me
But we both know that we do.
For not acknowledging your doings till now,
I know this poetry is nothing, but a small tribute to you.

I have messed up so many times
Cried a lot, ruined your clothes and stole your sleep
Asked you to play silly games with me
And dance on baba black sheep.

You never said NO! You never denied!
It was me who was ashamed of you a few times
And wanted to hide!
But I was a kid back then
I had no idea how important you are!
I had no idea what you have done for me!
And how would be life without you!
But now I understand, there never was, and never will be anyone like you!

Once the child is born, parents find it difficult to find time for themselves,
Few mothers have to leave their jobs and few have to work as well as manage their home,
And few fathers come back home from office to only see their child sleeping,
It is not about how much time you invested; you had to because I was your own part,
But you missed so much from your life, to finally let me go far apart.

Thank you so much for making me what I am today!
I miss you all the time even if I do not call you every day!
Thank you for guiding and moulding me whenever I was not on the right direction,
Your values have made me a much better person and I wish to be your reflection .

You guys are nothing but saints
That is why there is a saying
That God can’t be everywhere
So he made parents!

For all the parents across the world, with lots of love!

“Depression” is much more than feeling sad…

1 in 4 of us will fight a mental health problem in any given year. That person can be your family member, your friend, any person you cross on the street or YOU!

” In India, the prevalence of depressive disorders is estimated to be 4.5 per cent of the total population. But despite being so common, the signs of depression are not well recognized in the country. In a cross-sectional study conducted on 916 college students, only about a third (29.04 per cent) of the group clearly identified depression.” – Business Standard

‘I understand’, ‘I’m listening’ and ‘I’m here for you.’ These lines can “not only changes lives, but save them.” Few simple things that a person needs when he/she is depressed is someone to listen, support and love.

Signs of Depression:

Depression is more than just being sad or lonely. To identify whether you or someone else needs help, it is important to have a better understanding of the signs of depression. Feeling of futility, hopelessness, worthlessness, self-hate, and inappropriate levels of guilt. A depressed person loses perspective of life. The person loses interest in the things he/she loved and enjoyed doing earlier.

  1. Anxiety
  2. Sleep Problems
  3. Weight Changes
  4. Uncontrolled emotions
  5. Suicidal tendencies

How to come out of depression?

  1. Talk to someone. If you don’t have anyone who is willing to listen to you, write whatever is in your mind. Don’t keep things in your mind, all the stuff in there needs to get out! So, either talk to someone or write it down! Still, if you want to talk to someone and no ones there, you may write out to me about your problems at kvedantk@gmail.com. I promise, you will feel better.
  2. Exercise! It helps a lot. This is biologically proven. I am sure you can take out at least 5 minutes from 24 hours for exercise. Start with 5 minutes and then increase the time slowly.
  3. Sleep well and Eat good food. I am not pushing you to sleep for 8 hours, but sleep as much as your body requires, it maybe 5 to 9 hours. I keep a track of my food intake using HealthifyMe app, it is proving out to be a really helpful app in monitoring food and water intake.
  4. Laugh with friends and family or even alone! Just enjoy the moments and let your smile turn into a laugh whenever necessary. Don’t control your happiness. If you do not have anyone to laugh with, watch comedy shows, movies and enjoy “your” time with “yourself”.

Share your depression stories and how you are dealing with it, or how you came out of depression. This will be really helpful for others!

All the best!

The Art of Getting What You Want!

I asked multiple people that what are those two things, which matter the most to them in life, the two things which help them sustain themselves, the two things which they want to be perfect… and most common answer was Relationships and Career.

Now the second question was that, what do they do to make these two most important things perfect? Do they focus more on it? Do they do something extra on daily basis just so that these two things can improve? Do they put their heart into it? What was the last thing which they did with full passion and dedication? What was the last thing which they did only for themselves and the thing which they love to do? The answers were really depressing!

Did you asked these questions to yourself? If not, do it right now! How was it? If you are doing something in addition to your daily activity, that’s GREAT! If you are not doing anything, how do you think will these things improve? Magic never happens from thin air, the illusion behind the magic takes hours of practice!

The most important things which I feel in each and every phase of life are – Confidence, Content and Communication!

Whether you are a student, an employee, an employer, home maker, unemployed or retired person, these things will help you in each and every stage of life! Trust me, because this is something which I have learnt from my own experience and which I have told to many people and seen the positive change in them!

The best part about my 3C theory is that it works even if you have only 1 of the C strong enough. You do not need to have all the three Cs to be successful, you can work on the other two Cs and make it stronger with time.

Talking about Relationships, be it parent-child, siblings, couples, teacher – students, employer – employee, or any other relationship in this world. The most important thing is Communication. The worst relationships gain trust and live happily once they start communicating with each other. Communication has build many bridges in this world! Try for yourself, talk to the people around you, your family members, your friends, colleagues or even your pets! Talking to pets has reduced depression in many cases!

Talking about Career, all the three Cs are required here! You need to be confident in whatever you do. Do not be shy about things which do not matter at workplace, your work should define you, and not anything else! Content is another very important thing here! You should know what you are doing and get yourself updated on regular basis. This helps in getting to greater heights! Communication part you must have already understood from above paragraph!

Do let me know the things, which hold you back from being successful in your work, we will work out together! All the best and I wish you achieve whatever you wish for!

Life after Death

It was in and around me
The darkness had covered me like a shield
Like an armor protecting it’s knight
Like a body protecting it’s soul

I was freely flowing
Everywhere I wanted to fly… like Air
Like cold water… which can carve mountains
Like hot fire… which can burn down anything in it’s path

People said, you have been freed from everything…
Is it so? Does only your body keeps you attached?
Or is it the world? Or is it your name tag?

I have lived with this name for last 73 years,
and will remain immortal for generations to come…
But will they actually remember me after a few weeks?

Let me tell you how I ended up where I’m right now…
There’s no white light and no doors to heaven,
I was sleeping, and suddenly stopped breathing,
People around me thought I’m still sleeping, and they were partially correct,
because I was in a sleep, but it was the one, from which no one gets up.

I was still there for some time, inside my body…
Because I didn’t want to leave.
There are so many attachments, how can you leave everything abruptly?
And then there was a phase change that I don’t remember, when I was outside the body,
Seeing myself lying on the bed, in the most peaceful sleep.

This is the first time when I’ve seen myself like this,
and it is the last one too!
People who use to call me by my name,
are now calling me a “body”,
so they do know that I was not just the “body”,
it was just a suit for me to survive in this world.

I was Hindu by religion, and so my body will be burnt…
I would prefer not to see this, and try to leave this world!

There ain’t another soul here, unlike the last world I was in…
I’m all alone, and I will be until my time comes…
Time for rebirth, time to time travel back to the world where I came from.

I’ll be losing all the memories and undergo hibernation,
Then one day I’ll suddenly see the light again!

It’s really painful… this life and death…
First you got nothing, then your are attached to everything,
and then you are brought far once again…
and the cycle goes on!

To, The Students…

To,

The Students,

I hope you are doing great, and if not there is no reason to be upset because it’s never late!

Don’t worry! This is not a motivational blog or an article where you will be told to do hard work and wake up at 4 in the morning to study!

Few things are there which I would like to share with you because I believe it would have been helpful if someone would have told me the same when I was in your place.

What do you think is most important for you right now? What are you doing for it? What do you think you should have done or you can do but you are not doing it?

Vision – Google won’t show you the directions until you type in your destination!

The most important thing in life is having a vision. A vision is necessary because without setting a destination, you can never define the path on which you want to travel. You need to know what you want to do, and what you do not want to do! It is not at all a big problem if right now you are not sure about your vision or destination, you will find it out sooner or later, but the problem is being lost in unnecessary stuff like day and night usage of social media and getting addicted to it. This will keep you away from focussing on your destination.

If I tell you to walk straight to a point, you will start walking by setting your eyes to your destination. Even if I stand in your path, you’ll just go halfway around me and then travel towards your path. This is why the destination is more important than the path. If you know where you have to go, you will anyhow reach that point. But what if I just told you to go wherever you want to go without setting any proper destination and then suddenly stand in your path? You might deviate from the original destination and may travel to a new point or might even take a u-turn!

Give time to yourself daily and think about what you are good at and what you want to do. How to keep up your strengths and how to improve the areas in which you are weak. Break down your vision into several missions and objectives and start working on those objectives. It’ll surely help you in getting closer to what you want to do in your life. Just give yourself a start…the world is waiting for you!

Don’t let anyone tell you that you are average or you can’t do something!

You don’t have to settle on being average. Average is the new weak. You need to work smarter now. Protect your dream and work on it. The people who have always told you that you are weak at something, show them your potential. Don’t use words, show them your work…show them you are not weak or just average…show them that if you want to do something, you put your whole heart in it!

Why is it important to show others if you know that you are good enough? It is important because everyone needs a driving force, which pushes them to do great things in life, and these people who demotivate you, are the best motivational force! I want you to work smart and at least once…work on something with full passion, dedication and focus! No one can defeat you…you’ll conquer your dreams!

Do not complain!

Jim Carrey, JK Rowling, Tom Cruise, and Dhiru Bhai Ambani are just a few examples who had nothing but a lot of problems in life, but today they are role models for millions of people across the world!

Easiest thing in this world is to complain and it has increased with the sold-out media and an increase in fake forwards over Whatsapp! See your self in the mirror and then watch people in the streets who are homeless, who don’t know whether they’ll be able to have tonight’s dinner or not, who are born in a country where they are not sure if the next bomb may fall over there home or their school. Everyone has got problems buddy, but what you have got, millions of other kids just dream about it! Do not complain! Be thankful every day to nature and to your family and for your friends for whatever you have got!

You have got enough resources, what is missing is your dedication and focus! If you want to complain about something, complain about yourself and then try to improve yourself daily! Make a habit of learning something new daily. Develop a hunger for learning something new and good which will help you to grow and reach towards your destination.

Develop a few good habits, and leave a few bad ones!

Please please please use Whatsapp, Facebook, and Instagram as less as you can. Just calculate yourself and see for how many hours do you use these apps? If being a student, you are using it for less than half an hour a day, no need to listen to me, you are already doing great! If you are using it for more than that… Why? Don’t you have other things to do? What about reading books apart from your syllabus? What about your hobby? Do you exercise? Do you play any sport or just mobile and computer games? What was the latest movie/series that you watched and what was the latest TED talk or documentary that you watched? Have you ever heard or used Quora? You will know yourself what you are doing to your life and what you need to do after answering these questions.

Being cool is not posting on Facebook and Instagram with puppy filters and then waiting eagerly for comments and likes. Being cool is not getting high scores in mobile games and sharing the scores on social media. Being cool is to know about yourself and the stuff around you. Being cool is being healthy physically and mentally. Live in the moment and not in your mobile. Be cool and stop being a fool!

Last but not the least, push your self but not too much. Have you seen guitar strings? If you tie them softly, the sound will be awful and if you tie them too tightly, it will break! Same goes for you and me… we need to push ourselves to the right amount…neither too soft nor too tight…or else the result will not be melodious!

All the best,

Vedant
