Fatherhood – Part 1

Fatherhood

The excitement, the stress,
The blessings from all over,
The needs, The expenses,
The sense of responsibility on my shoulder.

Her tantrums, her mood swings,
Her continuous changing taste and need of being admired,
Her wishes which needs to be fulfilled right at the moment,
Her wishes which she wishes but are not actually required.

Few nights pass by just discussing the future,
Shopping of little cute clothes, and the colourful furniture,
Counting how many days have passed and are remaining,
The suggested list of unique names, with or without any meaning.

My folks shedding a tear along with a smile,
Upon seeing their careless boy turning into a caring partner.
My father, maybe revisiting his own memories,
Wants to share his feelings, but tries to control harder.

We see our fathers as our hero when we are young,
Then at an age suddenly things change,
The hero suddenly vanishes from most of our lives,
As he was working hard to bring the world in our range.

We make new friends, celebrate and party,
Go to the best possible college leaving our first friends,
The hero is still working hard to run the family,
He has saved for all of us, but on himself he never spends.

Thinking all this, a thought crosses my mind,
Will I also end up providing everything except time?
Will I be like my father, and will the child be like me?
Well, that’s the future, that we all will have to wait to see.

Suddenly a cry brakes out from the room across,
And my cloud of thoughts burst and words at loss,
I guess, i just skipped few heartbeats and breaths,
When the doctor came out and said, “Congrats”!

From last few months, we knew this day would come,
But when it is here, it’s something out of this world,
Approaching the room, I rubbed my eyes,
In those few steps, so many thoughts unfurled.

We saw each other and felt the love in the room,
Making it’s first sounds, enjoying life outside the womb.
She is weak, but happy,
I’m nervous, but happy.

The excitement, the stress,
The blessings from all over,
The needs, The expenses,
The sense of responsibility on my shoulder.
